George Coit and Judge Townsend came to Buffalo from Norwich, Conn. in 1811 and established a drug store. They continued their partnership with a storage and forwarding business. Coit was a member of the Buffalo Historical Society, the Buffalo Board of Trade and the Water Works Company. Ketchum, William, 1798-1876

Born in Bloomfield, Ontario County, N.Y.; came to Buffalo in 1819. A furrier and hatter by trade, he served as mayor of Buffalo in 1844, and was appointed collector of customs for the District of Buffalo Creek by Millard Fillmore, a lifelong personal friend, in 1851.
